Head, Internal Control


Our client, a reputable mortgage bank in Nigeria requires seeks to employ an experienced internal control professional to review all internal processes, systems and policies and make recommendations to ensure the risk to the bank business is minimized with a view to delivering improvements by advising, coaching and facilitating in order to not undermine the responsibility of management. To ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory policies.

Department: Internal Control


Reports to: MD/CEO

Assess adequacy/quality of and adherence to internal control procedures.
Conduct periodic checks on banks assets & liabilities in accordance with statutory guidelines and the banks policies.
Perform and report on overall risk assessment of the bank(systems, structures, policies and procedures)
Provide regular and objective reports for management use.

To work with various employee groups to develop and execute effective risk mitigation strategies.
Investigate all acts of violation of banks operational procedures.
Liaise with external auditors on statutory audits.
Ensure adequate security of the Banks’ assets.
All other duties as reasonably requested.


Bachelors’ degree or equivalent in accounting, finance, auditing or business management. AML certification will be an added advantage.
Previous work experience in the operations/internal control department of a bank preferably with a minimum of 5/7years.
Strong analytical skills, detail oriented and ability to work and interpret figures and other financial information.
Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls, compliance and internal audit processes.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

implement credit strategies within the context of banks risk acceptance criteria
ensure compliance with established guidelines on global credit position vis-à-vis various market segments
ensure proper administration of credit exposures to minimize banks risk of loss.
ensure timely identification and management of credit delinquencies
management of banks credit portfolio
ensure proper documentation of all credit facilities granted
generate quality and volume deposits
monitor and manage all relationships on an on-going basis
prepare credit reports for management
perform all other duties as assigned by management

quarterly growth in number and value of customer accounts – 45% increase
level of volume deposit/income generation – minimum of 90% achievement of assigned targets number of visits/calls to customers per quarter, which must be documented
quality of banks risk asset portfolio – high

level of achievement for set loan recovery targets – minimum of 85% recovery
accuracy and completeness of credit documentation
timeliness and accuracy of management reports
level of team morale - high

Identify, develop market share for the bank within an identified target market

Generate quality and volume deposits

Generate income by contributing & jointly executing marketing and sales activities of the bank

Prospecting, scheduling, marketing & building profitable business relationships

Carrying out market feasibility studies

Prepare feasibility and viability study reports for projects

Interface with and manage all relationships (project consultants, facility managers, regulatory bodies e.t.c)on an on-going basis

Monitor and manage assigned business relationships on an ongoing basis

Ensure proper documentation and record keeping for all assigned projects

Develops organization strategies by identifying and researching human resources issues; contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to organization strategic thinking and direction; establishing human resources objectives in line with organizational objectives.

Implements human resources strategies by establishing department accountabilities, including talent acquisition, staffing, employment processing, compensation, health and welfare benefits, training and development, records management, safety and health, succession planning, employee relations and retention, AA/EEO compliance, and labor relations.

Manages human resources operations by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining staff; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing staff job contributions; maintaining compensation; determining production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies; designing systems; accumulating resources; resolving problems; implementing change.

Develops human resources operations financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements, trends, and variances; aligning monetary resources; developing action plans; measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances.

Previous work experience in a Bank preferably with a minimum of 3/5years in a managerial capacity.
